There is no doubt that the pandemic was a watershed in the routine of professionals from all areas and around the world. And in schools, it couldn’t be any different. The use of technology in the classroom gained a new format after the experience of online teaching. Communication between schools and families, and between teachers and students, has gained agility and efficiency through the use of applications. Definitely, and in a democratic way, the virtual school environment reached the palms of everyone’s hands, regardless of class, color and creed.

According to the Union of Basic Education Establishments of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Sinepe Rio), the recovery of learning gaps and school dropouts, main post-pandemic concerns, are already a reality and, in most educational establishments , are close to the 2019 indices.

However, the biggest liability left by the pandemic was the emotional and relational shock, which often overlaps with pedagogical and academic issues. In this sense, it is necessary for schools to pay attention to topics such as empathy, tolerance and mental health, inside and outside the classroom. And anyone who thinks that only children and teenagers are affected is mistaken.

Teachers were also very emotionally affected by the countless challenges that were proposed to them, from one moment to the next. In record time, they had to appropriate and adapt to technological knowledge, which many were unaware of, to play the role of foundation of this transformation and strength for students. Therefore, they need this psychological support as much as their students.”

“In addition to educators, families were also surprised. They were trapped at home, had to monitor their children’s daily school life more closely, as classes entered their homes, and also suffered shocks. Today, schools become the ideal environment for families and teams to converge, in favor of the best education for the next generations” says the director of Sinepe Rio, Lucas Machado.
