In a historic edition, the 3rd Shrimp Farming Seminar encourages producers and promotes aquaculture in Arapiraca

This Saturday (27), Arapiraca City Hall, through the Rural Development Secretariat, closed the 3rd Shrimp Farming Seminar after three days of great exchange of ideas and learning for the community of producers and local supporters. The event took place at Sesc Arapiraca and was attended by big names in shrimp farming inside and outside Brazil.

The seminar began on Thursday (25), with a solemn ceremony, and continued on Friday (26) with a series of national and international lectures debating highly relevant topics such as environmental licensing, technological innovations and sustainability The event was concluded on Saturday with a field activity at Sítio Poção.

The meeting was attended by secretaries Genivaldo Oliveira and Hibernon Cavalcante, federal deputy Paulão and representatives of bodies such as Sebrae, Sesc, Association of Shrimp Breeders of Alagoas, State Secretariat for the Environment and Water Resources (Semarh) and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The participants were also attended by the Ministry’s aquaculture secretary, Tereza Nelma, and the president of the Brazilian Association of Shrimp Farmers, Itamar Rocha.

Deputy Paulão took the opportunity to demonstrate full support for the cause and praised the City Hall’s initiative. “These entrepreneurs have a challenge, but, for me, it will be very successful, especially because this product has a very strong added value and is a fundamental source of income […] I would like to congratulate the management of Mayor Luciano Barbosa, Secretary Genivaldo and all these entrepreneurs, and I am very happy to be a friend and partner in these successful initiatives to improve the quality of life of the people of the city of Arapiraca”, he praised.

Who also highlighted the potential of the work carried out in Arapiraca was the Federal Superintendent of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Cauê Castro. “We have water potential and economic potential to develop, and it is initiatives like this that bring together the production chain and the public sector, through City Hall, State and Union, to encourage and develop even further, giving these people more opportunities so that they can develop shrimp farming here in Arapiraca”, he stated.

Unbridled growth

Arapiraca is a city that has always stood out in agricultural production, being a reference in the production of tobacco, cassava, vegetables and pineapple and in recent years it has developed rapidly in the aquaculture sector, becoming the great shrimp capital in the Agreste of Alagoano. In 2023, the city reached a milestone of 330.48 tons produced, almost double the amount produced in the previous year.

“We hope that, from this seminar, our family producers will be able to learn and apply them to their activities, achieving a good income and providing improvements in the quality of life for the entire family”, concluded secretary Genivaldo Oliveira.
