Diane Warren is considered one of the most prolific contemporary composers and has written original songs for more than 100 films.

When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave him an honorary Oscar in 2022, he highlighted that his themes “amplified the emotional impact of countless films and inspired generations of musical artists”.

In fact, the composer has the record of having been nominated 15 times since 1987 for the Oscar for Best Song without ever winning, for songs such as “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, “Because You Loved Me”, “How Do I Live” or “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”.

Her most recent defeat was on March 10, when ‘The Fire Inside’, from the film “Flamin’ Hot”, lost to ‘What Was I Made For?’, from the film “Barbie”, making the prodigies Billie Eilish, 22 years old, and Finneas O’Connell, 26, the youngest ever winners of two statuettes in any category.

When the duo won for the first time with the main theme of “007: No Time to Die” in 2021, Diane Warren was also nominated for ‘Somehow You Do’, from the film “Four Good Days”.

But the iconic 67-year-old artist revealed that the Oscar that was hardest for her to lose was from the 2016 ceremony, when ‘Til It Happens to You’, the theme of the documentary “The Hunting Ground” which she wrote with Lady Gaga, lost to ‘ Writing’s On The Wall’, by Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes, for “007 – Spectre”.

“That was a difficult loss that year. That was the one that was unbearable. Of all the nominations, that one really hurt,” he acknowledged in an interview with Variety regarding the premiere of a documentary about him.

In an interview with Larry King in 2016, the artist had already said that ‘everyone thought’ she would win, ‘including me’.

However, Warren was positive when talking about the situation now with Variety.

‘It would be great to win a competitive Oscar, which I missed. But if I had to choose between winning a competitive Oscar once and never being nominated again, I would choose being nominated again and never winning. I love continuing to be nominated. It’s amazing,” she shared.
