Arriving near the middle of the year, we can have a better idea of some of the best things we came into contact with in 2024. From personal life, to culture. Therefore, the week is packed with one of the best films, one of the best exhibitions and one of the best shows of the year.

In this Friday Tips, we bring you a taste of what to expect:

At the movies…

One of the best films of 2024 premiered this week. “Rivals”, a new feature by director Luca Guadagnino, has actress Zendaya as one of the protagonists and also one of the main producers of the project.

The story is about a prodigy tennis athlete who became a coach, played by Zendaya, who is married to Art (Mike Faist), a champion in a bad phase of his career. She then devises a strategy for her husband’s redemption that takes a surprising turn when he must face the failed Patrick (Josh O’Connor) on the courts. Patrick was Art’s best friend and is Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.

Through a tennis match, the film debates power and sexual drive. Because Guadagnino only uses this as a discussion to talk about fighting for control over each other, through a love triangle that reminds us of classic melodramas of American cinema.

At the exhibitions…

The “Mundo Ment” exhibition ends this Sunday (28th), which offers a tour of the 25 years of graffiti work by Marcelo Ment from Rio.

In it, the artist even goes beyond his original graffiti to reach canvases, 3D prints or even digital art. Always with a political and social tone, he seeks to portray figures from Brazilian history in different ways, such as Bezerra da Silva, Madame Satã and Pixinguinha. Furthermore, Ment also tends to create characters to talk about the country’s history.

The exhibition is at the National Folklore Center, at Rua do Catete, 179. Visiting hours during the weekend are from 1pm to 5pm.

At shows…

Gonzaguinha, one of the biggest names in Brazilian music, receives a special tribute from singer Bruna Caram in a performance at Teatro Cesgranrio. She reinterprets the MPB artist’s classics, such as “O que é O que é?” and “Bleeding.”

The shows began with lives during the pandemic period and ended up becoming a special tour, in addition to being taken to an album entitled “Afeto e Luta – Bruna Caram Canta Gonzaguinha”, released in 2023.

The presentation takes place this Saturday (27th) at 8pm. Tickets vary between R$15 and R$60.
