A Nutritionist Carrie Ruxton recommends consuming three foods to reduce inflammation in the body, associated with serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, obesity, arthritis and even cancer.

In an interview with The Mirror, Ruxton said that diets that increase chronic inflammation tend to include refined grains, foods fried in seed oil and foods high in sugar. Therefore, to reduce inflammation in the body, the specialist begins by advising the consumption of fatty fish, which include species such as salmon, fresh tuna, mackerel and sardines. “A nutrient study found that osteoarthritis—an inflammatory joint disease—improved after patients received extra omega-3s. Researchers also saw a reduction in pain and cartilage degradation,” she said.

Consuming fruits and vegetables reduces an inflammatory marker in the blood, called C-reactive protein, which helps control sugar and reduce blood pressure, as well as cholesterol levels.

The nutritionist also indicates that fermented foods, such as yogurt with live cultures, sauerkraut and kimchi, help promote a healthy intestine. “They are known to stimulate ‘good’ bacteria in the intestine, helping to reduce inflammation. This can help with certain intestinal conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome”, she summarizes.
