Just over 1,000 children and adolescents, aged between 10 and 14, received the first dose of the dengue vaccine during the “D” vaccination day, promoted by Belo Horizonte City Hall, this Saturday (March 16). Since the start of the campaign, on February 27, 37 thousand people in the target audience have already been immunized. The number is three times smaller than the total number of people in the group, which totals an audience of around 120 thousand people.

The number of vaccines applied since the beginning of the campaign corresponds to 74% of the 49,500 doses of the Qdenga vaccine, produced by the Japanese laboratory Takeda, received by the municipality in the first shipment sent by the Ministry of Health to the State. The quantity received so far is not enough to immunize the target audience expected to receive the vaccine.

In a note, the Municipal Health Department highlights that it is “using the remaining vaccines to immunize all age groups, which total a population of around 120 thousand people”.

According to PBH’s report, in yet another awareness-raising initiative, the vaccination day was promoted at health centers in the city’s nine regions. In total, 1,056 doses of dengue vaccine were administered between 8am and 5pm on Saturday.

This Sunday (17) there will be no vaccinations administered in any unit. As of Monday (18), vaccines will once again be made available in 152 health centers and addresses can be checked online.

Who can take Qdenga?

To receive the vaccine, people aged 10 to 14 must be with their father, mother or legal guardian. In addition, it is necessary to present, preferably, an identification document with photo or birth certificate, CPF, proof of address and vaccination card.

For those who have recently been diagnosed with dengue, the recommendation is to wait six months after the onset of symptoms to start the vaccination schedule. If virus infection occurs after receiving the first dose, there is no change in the interval between applications, as long as the second dose is not applied less than 30 days after the onset of the disease.
