The month of March is marked by the Purple March campaign, aimed at raising awareness and mobilization about epilepsy. In allusion to Purple Day (World Epilepsy Awareness Day), the Parliament of Goiás promotes, this Tuesday, 26th, at 12 noon, the release of purple balloons, in the main lobby of the Casa de Leis, with the aim of placing highlighting the importance of the action.

The event is initiated by deputy Jamil Calife (PP), who is also a psychiatrist, vice-president of the Alego Health Commission, vice-president of Social Affairs of the National Union of Legislators and State Legislatures (Unale) and member of the Front Interstate Parliamentary in Defense of the Rights of People with Epilepsy.

Entitled “Purple March – Epilepsy, to help you need to know”, this year’s campaign highlights the importance of sharing and discussing, in a broad way, about the topic, with the aim of promoting understanding, breaking down stigmas and creating a more positive environment. inclusive. A neurological disease characterized by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain, which can result in seizures and other varied symptoms, epilepsy can affect the quality of life and social integration of affected individuals.

For this reason, Calife highlights that society’s understanding of the pathology, its causes, symptoms and treatments is essential. “Information is a powerful tool to combat stigma and ensure adequate support for people living with this condition.” In addition to the action developed at Alego, the parliamentarian and Unale promote a series of actions throughout the month. Among them, the recommendation that public buildings be lit in purple, symbolizing solidarity and support for the cause.
