Dengue fever claimed another victim in Bahia. This Thursday (28), the State Health Department (Sesab) confirmed the 22nd death from the disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The new case was registered in the city of Vitória da Conquista, in the southwest of the state.
According to Sesab’s Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate (Divep), 285 municipalities are in a state of epidemic (68% of cities), including the capital Salvador. Another 45 cities are at risk and 12 are on alert.
Deaths from the disease in the state were recorded in 12 municipalities.
In total, 81,428 probable cases of the disease were reported in the state as of Saturday (23). The number is 487.8% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2023, in which 13,854 probable cases were reported.
Vitória da Conquista, Salvador and Feira de Santana are the municipalities with the most likely cases of dengue in 2024, according to data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate (Divep). In Conquista, 11,627 cases have been reported so far; in Salvador 4,962 cases; and Feira de Santana 2,888 probable cases.
Even so, the ministry highlights that Bahia has a dengue fatality rate of 1.47%, a percentage below the national average of 3.09%.
The calculation is made based on reported cases that progress to a severe form of the disease. The assessment is carried out by Sesab’s State Technical Death Analysis Chamber.
