A study from the University of São Paulo found that phenolic compounds, especially ellagitannins found in the fruit’s seeds, have anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent weight gain. Carried out with 60 mice fed a diet rich in saturated fats and sucrose, the study showed promising results.

The rats were divided into groups, with some receiving supplements containing all the phenolic compounds in jabuticaba, while others received a partial version of these compounds.

Surprisingly, mice that consumed the unhealthy diet along with complete jabuticaba supplements showed similar health to those that maintained a balanced diet.

On the other hand, the rats that did not receive ellagitannins and followed a diet rich in fats and sugars had a health condition that was as impaired as those that only consumed an unhealthy diet.

The results of the research, conducted by researcher Gabriela Cunha, reinforce the importance of ellagitannins in preventing obesity, highlighting the potential of these compounds present in jabuticaba as a natural strategy for controlling weight. The information is from Metrópoles.
