New York, 04/03/2024 – Egg producer Cal-Maine Foods, from the United States, announced yesterday (2) that a company farm in Parmer County, Texas, had a record of highly pathogenic avian influenza. Confirmation of the disease resulted in the depopulation of around 1.6 million laying hens and 337,000 chickens, which represents around 3.6% of the company’s total flock as of March 2, according to Cal-Maine. Production at the facility has been temporarily halted.

In a statement, Cal-Maine said it is working to ensure that production from other facilities reduces the effects of work stoppages in Parmer County. The company also highlighted that it collaborates with the government to mitigate the risk of new outbreaks and effectively manage its response. Source: Dow Jones Newswires.
