BRASILIA, 03 APR – The Ministry of Health reported that most of the 27 federation units have already passed the peak of the dengue epidemic, a disease that affected more than 2.6 million people in Brazil in 2024. Seven states show a downward trend in cases, in addition to the Federal District, which has the highest incidence in the country, with 235 infections per 100 thousand inhabitants, and already accounts for more than 120 thousand infected this year.

Another 12 states have a tendency towards stability, but seven still show an upward curve, six of which are in the Northeast.

“We are seeing that the peak has passed in most of the states that started before. We still have the Northeast growing, we will evaluate it in another week to see the consolidation of this drop”, declared the secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance at the ministry, Ethel Maciel.

However, the ministry warned that, despite the slowdown in the epidemic, the population still needs to remain careful. “This is not the time to let your guard down,” he said.

Brazil records a record number of 2,624,300 dengue cases and 991 confirmed deaths in 2024. .
