The flu vaccination campaign resumed this Wednesday (3) in Volta Redonda (RJ) after the arrival of a new shipment of vaccines. Immunization had been interrupted last Saturday (30) after the doses ran out.

The new shipment was sent by the state government and distributed to all basic health units in the city that are administering the vaccine (see which ones below).

Flu vaccination in Volta Redonda began on March 23rd. This year, the Ministry of Health decided to bring forward the campaign to the end of March throughout Brazil due to the increase in the circulation of respiratory viruses in the country.

At this first moment, you can get vaccinated:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 6 years;
  • Indigenous children aged 6 months to under 9 years;
  • Health Workers;
  • Pregnant women;
  • Postpartum women;
  • Teachers of basic and higher education;
  • Indian people;
  • Elderly people aged 60 and over;
  • Homeless people;
  • Security and rescue forces professionals;
  • Armed Forces professionals;
  • People with chronic non-communicable diseases and other special clinical conditions (regardless of age);
  • People with permanent disabilities;
  • Truck drivers;
  • Public road transport workers (urban and long-distance);
  • Port workers;
  • Employees of the deprivation of liberty system;
  • Population deprived of liberty, in addition to adolescents and young people under socio-educational measures (between 12 and 21 years old).

The vaccine is being administered in basic health units in the neighborhoods of Conforto, Siderlândia, Jardim Paraíba, Vila Rica-Tiradentes, Retiro II, Vila Brasília and Santa Cruz.

The service will be from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm. You must bring a vaccination booklet, proof of professional activity and CPF or SUS card.

Almost 8 thousand vaccinated in the city

Since the start of the campaign, according to the Municipal Health Department, 7,860 doses against the flu have already been administered in the city.

“We had an excellent response, with the units full, people looking for the vaccine to be able to take their vaccine. And there is no need to rush, everyone will have the right to take their vaccine. The Influenza vaccine is a vaccine that is not usually missing”, said the coordinator of Primary Health Care, Vanessa Huguenin.

Vanessa reinforces that, even those who took the vaccine in 2023, should return to the health center to be immunized this year.

“It is extremely important to be immunized, as this vaccine only lasts one year. It is already part of the national immunization calendar, which is updated with the new strains that always appear”, explained the coordinator.
