CMEI students raise awareness about dengue fever for the population of Bandeirantes

Children and adolescents are the age group with the highest rate of hospitalization caused by dengue, immunization is available at the Bandeirantes Municipal Health Network

The students of Professor Fabiane Figueiredo, from CMEI (Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education) Professor Railson Ferreira dos Santos, have already learned what many adults still insist on ignoring: prevention and, now, vaccination are the best remedies to reduce the proliferation of the virus. Aedes aegypt mosquito and avoid serious cases of dengue. And, as knowledge was not meant to be kept, children took to the streets, bringing information about the necessary precautions to prevent Bandeirantes from entering the map of cities with a high incidence of dengue in the state.

According to data released today (24), by the Epidemiological Bulletin of the State Secretary of Health (SES), in Mato Grosso do Sul, 6,578 cases of the disease have already been confirmed and there are another 14,630 cases under investigation, the total number of deaths reaches 15. Despite Although the numbers have decreased compared to 2023, the concern is still great as there is no specific medicine to treat the disease. The municipality with the highest number of cases in relation to the population is Coronel Sapucaia, with 1,596 cases.

And the children were able to see this reality up close, during the walk they passed through dirty land, with rubble and garbage, stagnant water and some mosquito outbreaks. Professor Fabiane highlights that only by raising public awareness is it possible to reduce the incidence of the disease. “It is necessary to know and disseminate information and that is what we did in the project. The children understood and became agents of mobilization, both in their families and in the community.”

The students also visited the ESF (Family Health Structure) Ciro Abdo and there they had the opportunity to receive information from the medical team about the symptoms of the disease and how care is provided. The “Fora Dengue” project also had the participation and assistance of the CMEI director, Lourdes Giongo, the Pedagogical coordinator Adriane Nogueira, professor Silvia Alvino and assistants Fabrina Martinez and Lidiane Vidal.

Expanded vaccination

Another important ally to avoid serious cases of the disease is vaccination, and the Municipal Health Department has expanded the public for immunization, now children, from the age of 6, can now receive the doses. The measure, indicated by the Ministry of Health, came into effect last week and the doses are available at the ESFs (Family Health Structure) Gedeão Nogueira da Rocha and Ciro Abdo.

The vaccine used is Qdenga produced by the Japanese laboratory Takeda. The vaccination schedule consists of two doses, 90 days apart.
