The Vinhedo Health Department, through the Zoonoses team, carried out, last weekend, another house-to-house inspection to combat the dengue epidemic in the city. 314 properties were approached in the Center region. Of these, the team worked on 115, while 157 were closed, five were holiday homes and four were unoccupied. A partial inspection was carried out (when the owner is not at home, but the team can observe the outside area) in 15 of the properties and the team received 18 refusals.

Samples of larvae found in four properties were analyzed and found to be positive for Aedes aegypti. The standard of containers where they were collected remains mobile containers, capable of being removed and easily disposed of by residents, such as: bucket/watering can, or in places that require adequate control measures, such as drains and even in natural containers such as bromeliads.

Importance of inspections

The professionals on the Zoonoses team are trained and qualified to detect breeding sites that may go unnoticed by residents and pose a risk for the proliferation of Aedes aegypti. Visits to properties also include guidance, clarification of doubts and technical assistance.

As of this Tuesday (23), Vinhedo recorded a total of 1627 confirmed cases of dengue. It is extremely important that the population does not refuse the entry of teams to eliminate breeding sites, as well as daily care on the part of residents to avoid stagnant water.

10 minutes against dengue

In partnership between Vinhedo City Hall and the City Council, the “10 Minutes against dengue” campaign is also underway. The initiative is based on the experience of Singapore, where the country was able to interrupt the peak of a dengue epidemic with weekly actions by the population within their homes individually, lasting just 10 minutes, cleaning possible breeding sites.

On the City Hall website it is possible to download a checklist (link) of the weekly actions that each person can do, taking care of their own backyard.
