Placebo or not, the truth is that most of us don’t start a morning without drinking our espresso (or bica). We feel that it gives us energy, however, there may be more alternatives that give the boost necessary to face the day.

First of all, you might be wondering why you should give up coffee. There are several valid reasons: due to symptoms such as caffeine withdrawal headache, sleep changes or any other health issue. And although there are other alternatives with caffeine, including black tea, there are studies that point not to a drink, but to a very common food: apple.

According to several studies, it appears that this fruit can be a great source of energy, although it acts differently than an espresso. Apples provide slow energy in the form of carbohydrates, mostly naturally present sugar, called fructose, a type of energy that remains in the body throughout the day and keeps blood sugar levels stable, as mentioned by International Food Information Council Foundation.

Could an apple be a better alternative than a cup of coffee? Yes, if you want to have energy all day long and even more benefits, as this fruit is also rich in fiber, vitamin C and E and leaves us feeling fuller.
