The Guarulhos Municipal Guard (GCM) of Guarulhos celebrated this Friday (26), at the City Hall, the 25th anniversary of its first inspectorate. Started in 1999 with 19 members, today the Traffic Group (Gtran) has 40 agents on the streets and another 25 in training to take care of the city’s road inspection. This year the team has already seized 1,020 vehicles for administrative irregularities, while in 2023 1,689 were collected.

The year 2024 already has 56 vehicles fined, seized and removed for clandestine transportation of passengers at the international airport; in 2023 there were 80. “We have also been strongly present in the Prohibition Blitzes since 2018. In the first blockade we carried out, 600 drivers were stopped and more than a hundred were fined for being drunk. Six years later, currently, out of a thousand that we have investigated, not even ten are drunk. This is why inspection is so important”, highlighted the Secretary for Public Security Affairs, Márcio Pontes.

With the growth of the city, the duties also increased and the operation Carro Abandonado, Carro Guinchado was created, which has already removed 800 vehicles from the streets since 2022, which showed signs of abandonment for more than 30 days and represented a risk to public safety and health. public, as they are potential breeding grounds for the dengue mosquito.

“The extremely positive results are the result of the efforts of the last seven years of management, which invested in more modern equipment and vehicles, in professional development and in the agents’ careers”, stated Pontes.

The group also promotes the Gtran Educa project, which talks to the school community and other entities about the importance of education and citizenship for safer traffic. In schools, the preventive proposal presents the theme through a mini track for children with signs indicating no parking, pedestrian crossings, school areas, reduce speed, among other road signs.
