The Department of Agriculture and Supply of the Government of the State of São Paulo announced that vaccination against Brucellosis is underway throughout the state. Livestock farmers have until May 31st to immunize female cattle and buffaloes aged between three and eight months.

Bovine brucellosis is a disease that causes reproductive problems, such as abortion in the final third of pregnancy. Its occurrence results in economic losses and affects the social value of properties, due to the reduction in meat and milk production, an increase in the interval between births and a drop in the birth rate.

According to the Secretariat, vaccination is mandatory for female cattle and buffaloes, requiring only one dose throughout the animal’s life. Vaccination of males is prohibited.

To combat the disease and protect the herd, the Agricultural Defense adopts measures such as mandatory vaccination, the sanitary slaughter of affected animals, the requirement for examinations for the transit of animals intended for reproduction and the carrying out of epidemiological surveys to determine the prevalence of the disease. .

The deadline for declaring vaccination ends on June 7, in the Animal and Plant Defense Management system (GEDAVE), of the Agricultural Defense Coordination (CDA) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA). Brucellosis is a disease that must be notified to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA).
