Anticyclone causes increase in temperatures in Portugal

-

With thermometers reaching more than 20 degrees, several Portuguese decided to take advantage of the heat by spending the last few days at the beach, a situation that is unusual for this time of year.

“This is essentially due to having an anticyclone in our region, we have a pattern called an anticyclonic crest that essentially brings this pattern so stable and with a relatively warm mass for the time of year, therefore, reflected in these temperature values maximum and many regions above 20 degrees”, indicated Pedro Sousa, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

However, IPMA foresees changes in the weatherin most of the territory.

“It may only rain on Wednesday, possibly at the end of the day in Minho and coastal Douro, light precipitation with the approach of this system. From Thursday the front will pass, the cold front and we will have a drastic change in the weather. .. we will experience precipitation, sometimes strong winds and a significant drop in temperatures”.

Although they have not yet been issued, IPMA warns of the possibility of alertsmainly, to the northwest of Portugal.

“It will be very likely that there will be a need to issue warnings for sea unrest and, possibly, for snowfall in the mountains because it will be an event that, if there is not, as I said, large fluctuations in the forecasts could give reasonable amounts of snow in the mountains north and center”.

At the end of the week, the Maximum temperatures are expected to be around 15 degrees. In colder regions such as the north and center of the country,
maximum temperatures below 10 degrees are predicted and lows close to zero.
