The announcement was made this week by the concert hall managed by EGEAC – Equipment Management and Cultural Entertainment Company of Lisbon.

The new floor of Lu.Ca – Teatro Luís de Camões extends through the ‘foyer’ to the ticket office and the concert hall, also indicating access to the stairs, the boxes and the basement, where the Public Library is located.

According to the description made in the statement, this floor, “in addition to indicating a safe route for people who are blind or have low vision”, also allows “alert to possible obstacles on the route, namely stairs or differences in level”.

The new floor includes audio description of “all visitable spaces”, through audio tracks available on the theater’s website, in order to allow “blind or visually impaired audiences to plan their visit”.

The Public Library, in the basement, also “has an area with dozens of books in Braille and ink”, covering authors such as Mário Castrim, Luísa Ducla Soares and Dick Bruna. The theater also promises that the library “will have more titles soon.”

Lu.Ca already had, and will maintain, a Braille edition of the program, in a brochure “always available at the box office and on the floor”, as well as regular sessions with audio description.

In March, these sessions will take place in Catarina Requeijo’s shows “The Great Race” (9th), “Mita Tralha, Pequena Tralha” (16th) and “No two without three” (23rd).

The theater recalls, in the statement, that “since its opening in 2018, accessibility has been one of the guiding principles of Lu.Ca’s mission”.

Last year, this concert hall received the Access Culture Award for the “integrated vision” with which it guarantees “the safeguarding of physical, intellectual and social accessibility instruments.”

The Luís de Camões Theater, with artistic direction by Susana Menezes, is a cultural facility in Lisbon, managed by the municipality, whose programming is aimed at children and young people.
