The proposed regulation of the municipal program “As Minhas Primeiras Páginas” will be analyzed at the next Meeting of the Municipal Executive of Braga, which will take place on Monday.

With the aim of “promoting equal opportunities for access to books and reading”, the Municipality created this project that aims to “offer all children and young people living in the municipality a set of books from birth until they turn 17” .

All books offered under this project will be selected by a team of technicians specialized in the area of books and reading, according to the age group and the type of books most suitable for each age.

“Along with these books, informative leaflets will also be offered about the benefits of reading and with some tips for parents to take into account when reading to their children or how to motivate them to read, and signing up for this program does not imply any type of costs”, says the Braga Chamber.

The project will be implemented in two phases: the first will only cover children aged 0 to 10 and the second will apply to children and young people aged 0 to 17.

The Municipality’s partners in this project include the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library, the Braga Local Health Unit, the CTT, the Lusíadas de Braga Hospital, the Trofa Saúde de Braga Hospitals and the University of Minho – Institute of Education.
