There were several points, especially in the higher lands, that were covered with a white blanket.
At the top of the Alvão (illustrated in the photo) and Marão mountains, the snow appeared this afternoon. Snow also fell in Montalegre and several villages in the municipality of Chaves, as well as in Bragança, particularly in the Nogueira mountain range.
So far, the ice and snow have not led to the closure of any roads in the two districts.
The possibility of snowfall had been announced by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which, for this reason, placed the districts of Bragança and Vila Real on yellow warning.
The alert remains active until 9 am tomorrow, with snowfall expected to continue above 700/900 meters, with accumulation of up to 5 centimeters above 1000/1100 meters. IPMA warns that these conditions may have the likely impacts of disruption caused by possible accumulation of snow and possible formation of ice, which may result in restricted or closed roads, damage to structures or trees.
