The situation is taking place “at Escola Básica da Fonte Santa – Quarteira (1st Cycle – 6 to 10 years old)” and the images portray an alleged “mixed bathroom” for these children, so the question arises: “Is it possible that there are already parents who agree with this?”

With “urinals on the left” and “toilets on the right”, as described by the author of the complaint (in a post March 5th on Facebook), this bathroom does not guarantee children’s privacy, as “girls can leave their toilet and bump into boys in pile in hand and the boys can be doing pee and have the girls spit“.

“Where are the parents of these children? Do they think this is normal? Poor children… No privacyexposed, eroticized prematurely”, the publication in question concludes, displaying three images: in the first one shows a sign that seems to indicate a mixed bathroom; the second depicts urinals next to individual compartments: and the last one shows only urinals.

Is this complaint justified?

No. Polígrafo contacted the Management of the Dr. Laura Ayres School Group, where the Fonte Santa Basic School is integrated, which denied the allegations in the complaint and stressed that this is just one of several false information that have been spread on this matter.

“There are groups out there who want disturb public peace“, he accused, although noting that he did not know “what the objective is”.

According to the Management, there is “a primary school bathroom for boys and then there is another bathroom for girls”. Regarding the signage presented in the post, with a representative figure of the male sex and another of the female sex, corresponds to a mixed bathroom that is “in the teachers’ zone” and is intended for “adults”. Furthermore, this “bathroom is individual”, that is, without shared spaces.

The author of the publication also indicated that she was told that the school was “under construction recently”. However, the Management of the aforementioned School Group also denied this allegation.

In its response to the Polygraph, the Management highlighted that those in charge of education had already been informed, and “private denials had even been sent to some people”, but the misinformation continues to circulate and is “exceeding all limits”. For this reason, the Group indicated that it would issue a statement to make it clear that there are no mixed bathrooms for children at that school. Which was actually published at 1pm on March 13th on Facebook.

“Considering the numerous requests for clarification that have reached this Department regarding images circulating on social media, allegedly of mixed bathrooms, without any privacy, at Escola Básica da Fonte Santa, in the 1st cycle area, we have the clarify: the images and text that were presented do not reflect reality the sanitary facilities at Escola Básica da Fonte Santa 1st cycle; the signage shown in the photo does not correspond to the bathroom shown; The other photographs depict one of the bathrooms dedicated to boys, exclusively frequented by them; The girls have separate bathrooms, exclusively intended for them and without urinals”, the statement said.
