Intermunicipal Community and Mayors of Alto Alentejo visit work on the new Alentejo Central Hospital (with photos)

The Intermunicipal Community, Mayors of Alto Alentejo and the Local Health Unit recently visited the construction of the new Alentejo Central Hospital, in Évora.

Structuring equipment for the Alentejo Region as a whole, this work is regularly monitored by all agents in the territory, taking into account its relevant importance in the development of the Region and the well-being of the populations, who will thus have access to better health care .

Accompanied by the team leading the process, they were able to witness, on the ground, the course of this complex undertaking.

The new hospital unit will serve 150 thousand inhabitants in the District of Évora and around 440 thousand throughout the Alentejo, in conjunction with the hospitals in Beja, Portalegre, Elvas and Litoral Alentejano. With more than 30 specialties and the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies, the Hospital Central do Alentejo will have 457 inpatient beds, 11 operating rooms and 43 recovery stations.

Maria Filomena Mendes, President of the Board of Directors of ARS Alentejo, was the host and highlighted the importance of “proximity and networking” for the optimization of healthcare and the improvement of effectiveness in the response that this “modern” infrastructure – which has an investment of around 210 million euros – “it will provide the region’s population in complementarity with nearby local health unitsIt is.”

To guarantee the improvement of healthcare, innovation and research in health, the training and specialization of professionals and, to combat the problem of the shortage of human resources throughout the Alentejo, the restructuring of the Escola Superior de Saúde is also being prepared, a partnership between health and higher education institutions present in this region. This project will also include an intervention in terms of accessibility that will serve this infrastructure.

The Alentejo Central Hospital is being built on land belonging to the State, with a total area of ​​75 hectares, with the Hospital plot area being 25 hectares and the gross construction area approximately 100,000 m². The design project is developed over 10 different floors, below and above ground.

The area surrounding the hospital will be adapted with the construction of two new roads, pedestrian paths and cycle paths, in order to connect the hospital to the nearest traffic routes. The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.
