In a statement released today, the Food and Economic Security Authority ASAE highlights the main infractions detected as the failure to deliver the goods within the deadline agreed with the consumer, the failure to return the amount paid and the non-conformity of the product.

It also points out the lack of registration of a travel and tourism agency, the absence of travel agency insurance, the misleading of the consumer, the restriction of access due to location (‘geoblocking’), the lack of a Complaints Book ( physical and electronic) and the lack of information on the cost of calls, among others.

The operation also resulted in the suspension of activity of seven travel agencies due to lack of National Register of Travel and Tourism Agents and mandatory insurance.

In the week that marks World Consumer Rights Day, ASAE says it has developed this inspection operation, at a national level, “with the aim of verifying compliance with legal rules in physical establishments and in ‘online’ commerce. of buying and selling digital goods, content and services, combating the parallel economy, misleading consumers and also in the travel agency sector”.

According to him, the action was also based on “the numerous reports and complaints received” about these matters.

Since the entry into force of decree-law No. 84/2021, of October 18, relating to the purchase and sale of goods and digital content and services, ASAE has already initiated 1,500 administrative offense proceedings, 120 of which this year, within the scope of its mission of defending consumer rights.
