The cycle of debates “United for Democracy” is, between March and May, raising awareness among young people in the Algarve about participating in the European elections.

Organized by Europe Direct Algarve – and with the main objective is to attract the attention of people between 18 and 35 years old – this is «a muscular attempt to see an awakening of interest happen in a joint reflection in which young people will have the opportunity to say which your opinion on various topics and suggest action measures”.

The “United for Democracy” cycle thus aims to encourage civic participation and activism among young people in the invitation to join “Act together now – unidos.eu (europa.eu)” and encourage voting in the next European Elections, on 9 June 2024.

The organization is in charge of Europe Direct Algarve, integrated into the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), with the support of the Portuguese representation of the European Parliament and the European Commission and numerous local partners.

The first debate, which addressed the topic of transport, took place on March 15th, at the headquarters of AKIVIDA, in the city of Vila Real de Santo António.

On the 27th of March it is time to talk about quality of life at the Clube de Tavira, on the 12th of April the debate goes to the IPDJ in Faro, where we will talk about housing, on the 26th of April we talk about inclusion in Fnac da Guia and on May 24th of citizenship and participation in Aqua Portimão.

“European democracy is a fundamental value that we all share, regardless of our political affiliation or views. Supporting it together is much easier than acting alone. Tens of thousands of people from across the EU are now coming together, willing to raise their voices and take action to ensure that we work towards strengthening this fundamental value on which our European way of life is based.” can be read in the About us project | Together (europa.eu) .

In a note, CCDR Algarce recalls that the priorities outlined by the EU for the period 2019-2024 were: «The European Ecological Pact», «A Europe prepared for the digital age», «An economy at the service of people», «A Europe strongest in the world”, “Promoting our European way of life” and “A new impetus for European democracy”.
