The Algarve historian Fernando Pessanha is the winner of the 4th edition of the Historical Essay Prize of the Union of Parishes of Faro.

The jury, made up of FCHS/UAlg professors Jorge Carrega (president), Andreia Fidalgo and Luís Filipe Oliveira, unanimously decided that the work “The knight Rui Valente: a pirate and privateer from Faro in the 15th century Algarve.”, ” represents an important contribution to the history of Faro, whose scientific quality is unquestionable, which is why it was awarded 1st place”.

The award also provides for the publication of the work, which will soon be carried out by the same municipality.

Bruno Lage, president of the Union of Parishes of Faro, emphasizes that “this award is a strong contribution to the appreciation and increase of historical knowledge about the city, being at the same time a stimulus to carry out more research work in Faro, allowing for greater knowledge most robust and comprehensive of the history and identity of this important ancient city.”

“This work is an example of this, contributing to greater knowledge and enrichment of the very rich and fascinating history of this city, for which the Union of Parishes of Faro thanks Doctor Fernando Pessanha, senior technician in the municipality of VRSA for his availability, interest and enthusiasm in participating in this award and sharing, through their research, an unknown story, but of great relevance to Faro and whose publication will be carried out in the second half of the year.”
