The Automation and Robotics Laboratory of the University of Minho (UMinho) and botnroll.com promote, from Thursday to Saturday, RoboParty 2024, with 111 teams from all over the country, plus teams from Brazil and Spain.

The educational event teaches how to create/build autonomous mobile robots in a simple and lively way. This 16th edition takes place in the sports hall on the Azurém campus, in Guimarães. The public has free entry.

The opening session takes place on Thursday, at 10:00, with the presence of the rector Rui Vieira de Castro, and the mayor of Guimarães, Domingos Bragança.

The majority of participants are aged between 15 and 17, with the youngest being 10 years old and the youngest being 66 years old. At the beginning of the event, teams receive a kit of “Bot’n Roll One A” robot parts. This is followed by basic training in electronics, programming and mechanics to enable the construction of the prototype, in a mutually supportive environment and with permanent support from 65 students, mostly from Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering.

On Friday and Saturday there are robotic challenges, where participants put their robots to the test, to demonstrate their capabilities. The four challenges are the Obstacle Course, Race of Champions, Fun Challenge and Dance, the latter of which takes place on Saturday at 2:00 pm. In the Fun Challenge competition there continue to be surprises for participants. At the end of the event, participants take the robots home or to school to continue learning.

Over the three non-stop days (young people take a sleeping bag) there are multiple recreational and sporting activities such as gadget presentation, DJ, Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Archery, Functional Training, Peddy Paper, Tun Performance ‘ Obebes: Female Tuna of Engineering at the University of Minho, Performance of Tuna Afonsina: Tuna of Engineering at the University of Minho, and also “wireless internet”.

Since its beginning in 2007, RoboParty has had more than 8,000 young enthusiasts eager to have fun learning electronics, programming and mechanics.
