The Chamber of Faro approved an amendment to its 2024 budget that allows an increase of almost 24 million euros in the initial accounts, now set at around 100 million, the municipality said this Tuesday, March 19th.
In a statement, the municipality said that it approved on Monday, at a chamber meeting, the first amending amendment to the 2024 budget, with the incorporation of the management balance to allow “reinforcement of investment in several areas”, to “improve the public space and the attractiveness” of the municipality.
The budget increase of almost 24 million euros will allow, according to the municipality, to implement a set of investments, namely in schools in the municipality (1.4 million euros), improvement of sports facilities and increase in the car fleet (both around a million euros), rehabilitation of communication routes in the city (693 thousand euros) and in rural areas (one million euros).
The increase in the possibility of spending will also be channeled towards the acquisition of IT material (447 thousand euros), acquisition of land (402 thousand euros), requalification of public space in Praia de Faro and Ilha do Farol (300 thousand euros) and investment in energy efficiency of luminaires (200 thousand euros), among others.
The municipality specifies that, among the investments to be made in the municipality’s school system, the most important are the works to requalify 1st cycle schools (600 thousand euros) and the investment in schools in terms of energy efficiency (500 thousand euros).
The municipality emphasizes that the budget increase will also allow it to continue its “strategy of improving the attractiveness of the municipality and its communication routes”, namely with the requalification of Rua da Atalaia (310 thousand euros), Rua da Indústria (150) and the urbanization of Postmen (100 thousand euros for 2024 and 400 thousand for 2025), as well as the beginning of the tender procedure for accessible routes in the old city, the work of which will be carried out in 2025 and 2026.
As for the rural area, the municipality highlights the interventions planned on Municipal Road 522-1, at the Galvana site (321 thousand euros), Estrada Estoi/ Azinhal/ Peral (270 thousand euros for 2024 and 400 thousand for 2025), requalification of central streets in Santa Bárbara de Nexe (100 thousand euros for 2024 and 439 thousand for 2025) and Estrada dos Agostos (286 thousand euros).
With regard to the investments to be made in the car fleet, the highlight is the acquisition of a vehicle for the Sapadores Firefighters company worth around 500 thousand euros, two 31-seater buses (270 thousand euros) and two ‘minibuses’ and a nine-seater van for school transport (155 thousand euros), he concludes.
