Orlando Antunes is the winner of the PSD’s internal elections in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, with 245 votes. The opponent in this internal clash, which took place this Saturday, Paulo Cunha, had the favoritism of 149 activists from that municipal section.
It is recalled that the previous PSD Section Political Committee of Viana do Castelo resigned and brought forward the planned internal elections, with Orlando Antunes re-applying “with a renewed project and with a more robust team for the next political battles”.
Orlando Antunes, who led List A in this race, revealed that the main focus of this new directive structure is placed on the “2025 municipal project”, where “obviously the PSD wants to have a good result, not only at the level of the City Council, but also at the level of parish councils”.
Regarding the re-candidacy – and the resignation presented in March -, Orlando Antunes explained that “the internal organization of the PSD and its statutes provide that internal elections can only be held after November 26, 2024, which would obviously be too late for build a successful political project for the local authorities of 2025”.
For the PSD leader in Viana do Castelo, there was “also a need to reinforce the political structure with thematic teams”.
