ChargeGuru has just launched its innovative Zeplug service in Portugal, whose main objective is to be an electrical charging solution that allows you to overcome the obstacles that exist in shared garages, whether in condominiums or companies.

ChargeGuru is the first company in Portugal to offer the installation of an electrical charging infrastructure at no cost to condominiums, as well as an integrated solution, from managing monthly electricity billing to maintenance and technical support through the Zeplug service.

With the installation of an independent meter, only electric car owners make the monthly payment, ensuring the security and scalability of the service, allowing each user to install a charging point in a simple and economical way, buying or renting the charger. Furthermore, the service always guarantees electricity from renewable sources, as the company only uses certified and clean energy suppliers.

In Europe, Zeplug was chosen as a partner by major car manufacturers such as BMW-Mini, Tesla, Renault, Volkswagen Group, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover and works with more than 200 condominium management companies. ChargeGuru has already signed the first agreements to install the Zeplug service in Portugal. In 2022, it raised 240 million euros with an investment fund (ICG), which will allow it to be installed in more than 2,000 buildings over the next three years and contribute to the decarbonization of mobility.

According to Marcus Torres, Country Manager at ChargeGuru in Portugal, “we are very excited about the launch of the Zeplug service in Portugal. The energy transition in Portugal has intensified by leaps and bounds and in a country where 58% of people have a car park or garage it is imperative to create better conditions to drive change in a simple and safe way. With Zeplug we aim to prepare buildings for the great demand for electric vehicles that is expected in Portugal, given that more 100% electric vehicles will be registered in 2023 new than the total of 2022 and 2021 combined”.

Preparing buildings for a sustainable future
The Zeplug service was designed for existing buildings that, due to their age, are not technically prepared to place a charger in every parking space. ChargeGuru, as owner of the infrastructure, assumes responsibility for its installation, security, certification and maintenance.

On the other hand, it also brings a long-term environmental benefit. According to the UN (United Nations), energy consumption continues to be the main cause of climate change, representing around 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions. ChargeGuru’s new service helps combat this reality. An electric charging point in your own building can reduce around 3 tonnes of CO2 per car per year. This way, the service saves you having to travel to public charging points and also guarantees that the energy always comes from renewable sources.

ChargeGuru, focused on the transition to electric mobility
The company operates in eight European countries and has a strong local presence in each of them, specializing in charging solutions for individuals and companies. With over 500 installers across Europe, it is the No. 1 network in the EU, offering dedicated and customizable services. It has been operating in France since 2014 and in Portugal and Spain since 2014, driving the energy transition for everyone by simplifying charging in multi-family homes and office buildings.

“Taking into account our experience in France, where we already have more than 15,000 buildings using our services, we are confident that we can satisfy the growing demand for electrical charging infrastructure in Portugal and that we have the most complete and efficient solution for common garages and office buildings.”, concludes Marcus Torres.
