The daycare center of the Social Solidarity Association Recreio do Caramulo should return to its original location from September, announced the Tondela executive, during a visit to the renovation work on the social institution’s building, where the Home Support Service will also operate. (SAD).

The property’s requalification works, budgeted at around 400 thousand euros, received financial assistance from the municipality, the Government and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). In addition to municipal financial support worth 50 thousand euros for the works, there is also aid of 120 thousand euros allocated last year to the social institution with the aim of keeping the daycare center in operation.

“We believed from the beginning that this is the way. If the municipality had not supported the daycare center and put pressure on Social Security, today there would be no nursery or daycare center in Serra do Caramulo. This is positive discrimination and a clear commitment to territorial cohesion. Today we have nine children in the nursery and 13 in the daycare center, which continues to see high demand from families. These numbers are proof that we were right to have defended and supported the maintenance of the daycare center in Vila do Caramulo”, stated the mayor of Tondela, Carla Antunes Borges.
Valência is currently attended by 22 children, from Guardão, but also from other parishes in the municipality and even neighboring municipalities.

This social response was signaled in 2021 by Social Security (SS) to close due to the lack of children, but thanks to the efforts of Recreio directors and the local authority, the daycare center not only remained open but also saw the number of boys grow. and girls.

The renovation work on the Recreio headquarters began in January and, according to the municipality, “is progressing at a good pace”.
Forecasts suggest that the project will be ready in September, in time for the start of the new academic year. The daycare center, which currently operates in Parish Council facilities, will have new spaces, as well as the home support service.
After the works, the SAD, which serves 18 people, will have capacity for 30 users and the daycare center will be able to accommodate up to 25 children.
