MCCP condemns the attitude of the Palmela Chamber in excluding the work of previous presidents

In a statement, the Citizens’ Movement of the Municipality of Palmela (MCCP) expresses the displeasure on the part of the councilor, former mayor of Palmela, Carlos de Sousa, and the secretariat of that civic movement, which questions whether the photos from other mandates will have disappeared from that authority’s archives.

Another issue presented in this MCCP statement is the choice of criteria that led to the inclusion of photos in the film only from the mandate of the current president, Álvaro Amaro, and the previous president, Ana Teresa.

Here is the MCCP “manifesto”:

<<This year we celebrate in Portugal the 50th anniversary of the 25th April Revolution. On March 18th, at 6:00 pm, the Honor Committee for the 50th anniversary celebrations met at Cine São João so that the Chamber could inform the respective program. This meeting began with a video with photos of initiatives relating to April 25th of this mandate and previous mandates. Throughout the video, photos appear showing elected representatives of municipal executives, Municipal Assemblies, Parish Councils and Assemblies, members of the Associative Movement and citizens. But all the photos presented only refer to the mandates of the current President Álvaro Amaro and the previous President Ana Teresa. What about the previous mandates of former Presidents Carlos Sousa, Carlos Pésinho, Ferreira da Costa and Edgar Costa? Did the photos disappear from the archive? What selection criteria was this? DEMOCRATIC LOCAL POWER was one of the great achievements achieved with the Carnation Revolution. It is shameful that the Palmela City Council has simply ignored the work and dedication of thousands of elected officials since the first democratic election for Local Bodies on December 12, 1976, not forgetting the glorious effort made by the Administrative Commissions at the end of 1974 until 1976.>>.
