Luís Pedroso, president of Union of Parishes of Maximinos, Sé and Ctividade and member ffounder of UPE – Luso-Ukrainian Social and Cultural Center Association, recalled that the Parish Council has supported Ukraine since 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea.

“Since 2014, we have been saying that Russia invaded Ukraine and the European Economic Community only recently remembered that there was actually an invasion. In 2014, the people of Crimea suffered an invasion and we are here precisely because we are often starting to talk less about Russia and more about other parts of the world. The invasion of Ukraine continues to happen. However, I express my solidarity with the Russians who were savagely murdered. They have a terrible leader, but I think the Russians don’t see themselves in him, therefore, my solidarity goes to the families of the victims of this barbarity”, said the mayor.

Vasyl Bundzyak, president of the Luso-Ukrainian Social and Cultural Center, praised the solidarity of Braga residents who have always been in solidarity with Ukrainians. “I, during this period of two years and one month of war in Ukraine, feel that the people of Braga and the Portuguese people are very supportive of the Ukrainian people. Today we are going to have this solidarity walk and it is further proof that the people of Braga participate in our lives and want to help more during this time. I think it’s very important and I want to thank all the people from Braga who support our people”, he thanked.

In turn, Abraão Veloso, president of the UPE Board – Luso-Ukrainian Social and Cultural Center Associationspoke about the collection of food and essential goods to send to Ukraine that is taking place during the International Agriculture, Livestock and Food Fair.

“For us it is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to get our message across and our message is that Ukraine is at war. People die every day, there is great violence and they need everything. We are far away, but we are helping and we launched the ‘Love Ukraine’ campaign where we have the support of AGRO who opened their doors to us and we already have a lot of food and a lot of clothes too. Torrestir also joined this campaign and now we have the guarantee of being able to take the products to the Ukrainian border”, he informed.

Abraão Veloso recalled that a fundraising campaign is underway to send the fifth ambulance to that country. “We had a request from an association of disabled people in Ukraine that has their ambulance completely ‘rotten’ and they need an ambulance to be able to help people”, he concluded.
