Frenchman who left Rio for Lisbon puts Elis Regina’s old house on sale for 1.7 million – Real Estate

Born and raised in Paris, the grandson of the founders of the renowned footwear brand Maison Carel did not follow the family business, having invested in the international real estate market.

At the head of Athena Advisers, a real estate consultancy that operates in the most “prime” locations in France, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal, Roman Carel is one of the main people responsible for Brazilians’ interest in investing in our country.

He settled in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, after purchasing the iconic house that belonged to Elis Regina and where he lived with his Swedish wife and three children born in the country.

Located on Avenida Niemeyer, overlooking São Conrado beach, the 350 square meter house, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms (two of which are suites), had been purchased in 1967 by the legendary singer, who made it her home. until 1972.

At the time, one of the motivations for the purchase was Elis Regina’s desire to tie the knot with the composer and music producer Ronaldo Bôscoli, with whom she would, in fact, marry and live in this house, where her first son, João, was also born. Marcello Boscoli.

When he purchased the house with his wife, Andrea, Roman Carel only made “small repairs” to the property, such as “replacing some parts that were worn out over time, including the ceiling, the bathroom taps and the parquet floor , in addition to integrating the kitchen into the dining room to reflect the couple’s lifestyle”, guarantees Athena Advisers, responsible for marketing the emblematic house of its founder, in a statement.

The property has now been put up for sale for 1.7 million euros.

Roman and Andrea Carel, the guardians of this “historical jewel”, say that they have cherished and preserved its essence since they became enchanted by this place. “When I visited the house I didn’t know its history, but I felt something different, welcoming, I had an immediate connection with the space”, says Roman.

“And this emotional connection continues to this day, as it was where we lived as a family for the first time, where we raised our three children who were born in Brazil and have a very special bond with the country and its culture”, explains the businessman.

Currently residing in Lisbon with his family, Roman Carel has fond memories of the house on Avenida Niemeyer, which was decorated by them with travel souvenirs, objects brought from abroad and pieces found in Rio de Janeiro, mixing different styles.

“It’s a refuge, but with incredible views. We’ve seen everything, from flocks of birds to whales swimming in the sea”, recalls Roman.

“The view is, in fact, extremely privileged to enjoy the sunset and the waves hitting the rocks. The garden also creates a silent barrier that blocks the sounds of the city, giving the feeling of serenity of a country house and, Therefore, it is possible to have breakfast listening to the birds and contemplating the sea and, five minutes later, be in Leblon”, he emphasizes.

Although the house has everything to be “highly coveted”, Roman warns: “We will be very careful in choosing the new owner so that the historical and cultural legacy can remain very much alive.”

In this space “where the energy and creativity that inspired one of Brazil’s greatest musical talents still resonates”, future residents can also appreciate the architectural project by Fernando Portuguese, which follows the style of Brazilian residences with a modernist aesthetic from the 1950s, with tall doors and wooden windows.

The property features a double suite with direct access to the terrace with swimming pool, sauna and a “deck” with panoramic views of São Conrado beach.
