The president of the Polytechnic of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), Maria José Fernandes, was distinguished, on Saturday, with the scientific merit medal, awarded by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato.

As part of the recognition, the minister highlighted the IPCA President’s career, as well as the excellence of her contribution to higher education and to the country. She also mentioned that it is the greatest distinction that MCTES has to honor individuals.

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that today I receive the scientific merit medal awarded by the Minister. I have the honor of being the President of IPCA, but this recognition is also a tribute to the collective commitment and tireless dedication of the entire academic community of the Polytechnic of Cávado and Ave”, said Maria José Fernandes.

The president of IPCA said that this recognition extends to all polytechnic higher education of which IPCA is a part.

She also added that her path is also based on the heritage of the past, praising Professor João Carvalho who preceded her in the presidency of IPCA.

The Award was presented during the Signing Session of the transfer contract for FCT’s future facilities and presentation of the architectural project, which took place today, in the LNEC Auditorium, in Lisbon.

In addition to the President of IPCA, the Rector of ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, was also distinguished.
