The preliminary project for the requalification and expansion of the José Loureiro Botas Secondary School, in Vieira de Leiria, was approved by the Marinha Grande City Council last week, representing a budget estimate of around 6.3 million euros.
The proposed requalification of the Secondary School is aimed at the areas of pedestrian circulation, intermittent and pedestrian roads, recreation, leisure and framing and green spaces. According to the municipality, the aim is to create differentiated areas, which allow the creation of environments appropriate to the space, and which respond positively to the uses and functions for which it is intended.
At the same time, the work aims to “mark in a legible way the relationships between the different areas of occupation, areas for pedestrian circulation, recreation, living and leisure, areas intended for free sports”.
The intervention area of around 26,500m2 represents a territory that has a great visual impact and is located close to the coastal area, on the outskirts of ‘Pinhal do Rei’, in a residential area. “The green area of the Secondary School, due to its size and location, plays an important role in the green and recreational structure. Due to its proximity to a residential area, it presents a space of great relevance and seeks to improve the quality of the urban environment and the quality of life of the population”, assumes the municipality in a press release.
The proposal considers it essential to promote infrastructures to support the use of bicycles, guaranteeing universal conditions of safety, comfort and experience suited to different physical and technical characteristics.
“The school will have a more aesthetic intervention on the exterior, renewing the image and an intervention with greater relevance in terms of accessibility. It should be noted that this need allows the entire space to be accessible by everyone regardless of the type of mobilization difficulty.
The objective is also to give a new and pleasant image to outdoor spaces, making them welcoming, providing new experiences and new leisure spaces”, concluded the municipality.
