The biblical procession “Vós Sereis O Meu Povo”, better known as the Burrinha Procession, takes place this Wednesday night on the streets of Braga.

Organized by the Parish of São Victor and the Parish Council of São Victor, this procession will begin at 9:30 pm leaving from the Church of São Victor.

This religious procession emerged as an evocation of the procession of Nossa Senhora das Angústias that marked the daily life of the parish since the second half of the 18th century and which included an image of Our Lady mounted on a donkey, which made it one of the most popular in the city of Braga. The procession initially took place on the first Sunday in July and, after an interregnum, was integrated into Holy Week in 1960 until 1973. Resumed in 1998, leaving aside the devotional ideology of the Sorrows of Mary, it focused on the narrative of the history of Salvation, from Abraham to Jesus Christ. One of the last biblical paintings repeats the traditional Flight to Egypt, with the representation of Our Lady of the “Donkey”, a painting most appreciated by the people who watch it.

Itinerary: Church of São Victor, Largo da Senhora-a-Branca, Avenida Central (north side), Largo de São Francisco, Rua dos Capelistas, Jardim de Santa Bárbara, Rua do Souto, Largo do Barão de São Martinho, Avenida Central ( south side), Largo da Senhora-a-Branca, Church of São Victor.

The procession of the Lord Ecce Homo is scheduled for Thursday and the Procession of the Burial of the Lord leaves on Friday. Read the Holy Week schedule in full here.
