The Municipal Museum of Tavira promotes, on March 30th, at 10:30 am, a guided tour of the “Balsa, Roman City” exhibition, under the guidance of archaeologist Celso Candeias.

On display at Palácio da Galeria, the exhibition “Balsa, Roman City” provides a “journey of 2000 years, until
to the time when it flourished, next to the banks of the Ria Formosa, the city that became the capital of a Roman municipality”, he adds in a statement.

Throughout 10 rooms, and through an exhibition based on around 100 pieces from various national museums, it will be possible to learn about various aspects linked to the origin and evolution of that city, as well as its main economic activities, eating habits and daily life of its inhabitants.

It will also be possible to learn about the names of some Balsa citizens and their professional positions, their concerns about health, beauty and religion or the funeral rituals practiced by some of them at the time of the death of their loved ones, whose names, engraved in stones, remained eternalized to this day.

Those interested in participating (maximum 15 people) can register until March 29th here.
