Number of subscribers to sports streaming platforms drops in Portugal – Internet

At the beginning of this year, the use and subscription to sports streaming platforms recorded, for the first time, a slight drop since 2020. The total number of subscribers to these services fell 0.7 percentage points, to the level of 9.4% of individuals, according to the most recent results of the B-Stream study, produced by the Marktest Group. The value translates into a drop of around 60 thousand subscribers compared to previous data.

The number of Portuguese people who subscribe to or use streaming platforms dedicated to sports content around 809 thousand individuals, which represents approximately 9% of the population over 15 years old in mainland Portugal.

Following the “subscription” indicator, data relating to the “use” of these streaming platforms also show signs of a slight decline, with 1.6 percentage points less, to the threshold of 17.5% of residents in Portugal. Even so, the variation leaves the universe of users of this type of platform in Portugal still over 1.5 million individuals.

B-Stream data also allows us to confirm that Class A/B is the socio-economic group with the highest percentage of use and subscription to sports platforms: 20.9% of Portuguese people over 15 years old use this type of streaming services and 12.9% subscribe to them.

When evaluating the total number of subscribers to this type of service, however, only 23.8% belong to socioeconomic group A/B. To the Class C1 and C2 are those that contribute most to the number of subscribers, representing around 509 thousand of the 809 thousand total subscribers of sports platforms. Another indicator from the study reveals that 59.2% of individuals who see sports platforms at family homes or cafes are from classes C2 and D.
