“Artificial intelligence agents have to be responsible for what they create”, argues leader of IBM Portugal

-

Ricardo Martinho, president of IBM Portugal, confirms that the brand is receptive to the new regulation that assigns responsibilities for what Artificial Intelligence (AI) produces. “Artificial intelligence agents must be responsible for what they create”, said the manager of the historic IT brand this Tuesday in a meeting with journalists in Lisbon.

Ricardo Martinho’s statements came during an action to publicize the WatsonX platform, with which IBM intends to recover the prominent place it had between the 90s and the first two decades of this millennium in AI, with systems that won so many chess matches for the champion Garry Kasparov, as they would later win the general culture competition Jeopardy, on TV.

With WatsonX, IBM provides a platform that runs generative AI models that can be used in a company’s day-to-day life to help workers produce texts, images, or calculations and extract information from databases. It is with this platform that IBM intends to respond to a market that already follows different contours, and which has OpenAI, Google or Microsoft as the names that attract the most attention.

At Parque das Nações, at the headquarters of the Portuguese delegation, no one considers the AI “train” lost. And proof of this comes from the words of Ricardo Martinho, when trying to differentiate himself from the competition.
