Alto Alentejo Local Mental Health Council meets for the first time

The auditorium of the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMA) hosted, this Tuesday, the 26th, the first meeting of the Local Mental Health Council of Alto Alentejo.

This Council’s mission is to promote mental health in the Alto Alentejo territory by presenting proposals to improve the functioning of the local mental health service and issuing opinions on the activity plans and reports prepared by that service.

The installation of this consultative body, chaired by the president of the Intermunicipal Council, Hugo Hilário, took place with the inauguration of representatives of the entities that constitute it – CIMAA, Municipalities, mental health services, Local Health Unit of Alto Alentejo (ULSAALE ) and other entities relevant to the matter, followed by the presentation, discussion and approval of the internal regulations.

The person responsible for the Department of Psychiatry at ULSAALE, Catarina Agostinho, also had the opportunity to inform the members of the Local Mental Health Council of Alto Alentejo about the responses currently available to the population, within the scope of mental health and the responses planned to improve services.

The president of the Intermunicipal Council, Hugo Hilário, highlighted the importance of this body to «improve interinstitutional consultation and strengthen the coordination between the responses made available by ULSAALE in the Alto Alentejo territory and the projects and services already developed in each municipality, allowing to respond to the needs of communities more effectively and efficiently. The constraints identified in our territory will always be easier to overcome if we work in a structured, close and continuous way”, he stated.
