The 28 classics and cars up to a thousand euros that participate in the first edition of “Gumball à Tuga” are already on the road. The vehicles left Ponte de Lima yesterday, where the two friends organizing the initiative are from.

After the first stage, which started in Vila Limiana and ended in Bragança, the group of vintage car aficionados was already in Vimioso this Thursday morning. Today’s stage ends in Régua. Tomorrow, they return to Ponte de Lima.

“It’s going well, everyone is very excited. It’s very cold and rainy, but everyone is in the mood for the trip. Five stars”, says Tiago Lopes, one of the organizers, to O MINHO, adding that there are 64 participants in the 28 vehicles.

The trip can be followed on the initiative’s Instagram page.

As O MINHO reported, the inspiration for this initiative is Gumball 3000, one of the biggest automobile events in the world, but in a Portuguese version. In other words, with classics and old cars whose market value does not exceed one thousand euros.

The challenge is to travel the Northern Route, with Ponte de Lima as the starting and finishing point, thus covering more than 800 kilometers in three days.

“Initially, the idea came up of just doing both. But, later, in conversation, we thought about taking more people and thus meeting more people and seeing other cars”, Tiago Lopes, who organizes the initiative together with Rui Costa, told O MINHO.

The purpose of “Gumball à Tuga” is to leave out “normal everyday cars” and ride in “old and classic cars”.

North Route

As the organizers are from Ponte de Lima, it is in that village that the three-day trip began and will end, despite the beginning of the Northern Route being at the kilometer of the EN103, in São Romão do Neiva, Viana do Castelo.

The itinerary then passes through: Barcelos, Braga, Montalegre, Chaves, Bragança, Miranda do Douro, Régua, Guarda, Gaia, Porto, Matosinhos and Ponte de Lima again. All for nationals 103, 222, 221, 218 and 13.

“For three days, we will explore the beauty of the Northern Route, passing by stunning tourist attractions that will make this trip unforgettable. From picturesque landscapes to exciting destinations, each stop will be a celebration of automotive nostalgia,” highlight the organizers.

And they add: “This is not just an event, but an exciting gathering for lovers of old and vintage cars.”
