Tondela is about to host one of the most anticipated cultural events in the region: Queima e Rebentamento do Judas, organized by Trigo Limpo Teatro ACERT. With registration for the Fábrica da Queima workshops sold out, the 2024 edition promises to exceed expectations, with 370 participants ready to bring this unique cultural event to life. The performance of the show will be on Aleluia Saturday, starting at 11pm, in a new location, the Tondela Weekly Fair grounds, which will allow more space for the audience, which is packed every year.

As usual, the show is renewed, with a new dramaturgy, musical composition, choreography, costumes and scenography, and will focus on the themes, or evils, that haunt the world, Portugal and Tondela. In the year celebrating the 50th anniversary of April 25th, the carnation revolution will be very present in the dramaturgy, drawing parallels with a set of situations that tormented society in the 60s and 70s and which today are once again on the agenda. , such as war, the conquest and loss of rights, conflict as a path to progress, the lack of hope for young people, the repetition of unfair cycles of power.

This year some contradictions will be burned – we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, when many of the achievements have not even been fully achieved and we are already questioning whether this is to be achieved”, says Pompeu José, one of the show’s coordinators. “Therefore, it is in relation to this conflict that Judas this year will be accused, tried and burned”, he adds.

Fábrica da Queima began on Palm Sunday, March 24th, and continues until the day the show is presented. Participants will take part in creative workshops divided between interpretation, movement, music and scenographic construction that run intensely over six days.

More than a street spectacle, Queima do Judas is a celebration that unites the community. With live music, fire elements and the participation of hundreds of people, including creators, actors, musicians and technicians, this event with its origins in a local tradition has won the hearts of the inhabitants of Tondela.
