Joaquim Miranda Sarmento is Luís Montenegro’s choice to take over the Finance portfolio, where he will try to initiate what he calls “Reform of the Ministry of Finance”, where he has already worked for ten years.

In his perspective, which materialized in a book published in 2019, and presented by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the Ministry of Finance should assume the role of an active agent in the policy of competitiveness and economic growth, through a fiscal policy that encourages investment and savings, through reduced context costs, and better public services. The goal, after all, will also be to make the Public Sector more competent in managing its money and assets, reduce waste and increase transparency.

In the previous legislature, Miranda Sarmento was parliamentary leader of the PSD bench under the leadership of Luís Montenegro. Previously, the Finance professor at ISEG-Lisbon School of Economics and Management was also coordinator of Rui Rio’s economic program, after having been alongside Cavaco Silva in Belém, in the role of economic deputy during the former President’s second term. of the Republic. Between 2010 and 2011 he was a consultant at UTAO (Technical Budget Support Unit).
