The French, who in recent years have been building a good national team, capable of competing with the traditional powers of the sport, took the lead through Carlo di Benedetto, in the 8th minute, with a direct free kick, but Portugal came around before the break, with a brace from Gonçalo Alves, at 12′ and 16′.

In the second half, Carlo also scored twice, Gonçalo Pinto put Portugal back in front and Hélder Nunes increased the margin to 2-4. However, in two minutes, the French would make it 4-4, with Roberto di Benedetto and Carlo, who reached the hat trick and would also score the winning goal, with a direct free kick in the last seconds.

Before that, Marc Rouze and Hélder Nunes had established 5-5, maintaining uncertainty as to the winner until the end.

This result leaves France and Spain at the top of the group, both with six points, and forces Portugal to beat the Spanish team (which beat Switzerland 7-1) on Friday in order to progress in the tournament.

In the other group, Italy and Argentina share the lead, also with six points, after the “azzurri” beat Angola, 5-3, and the South Americans defeated Montreux HC, 6-0.
