Albufeira hosts, from this Wednesday (3rd April) until Sunday (7th), the Youth Basketball Festival, which will take place in several sports halls in the municipality.
The event brings together more than 1000 athletes, 72 national teams, 144 coaches, 150 referees and table officials, 15 physiotherapists, 15 national selectors, 90 managers and athletes’ companions, as well as other people linked to the organization.
“For 11 years now, we have had the privilege of hosting this great sporting event in Albufeira, an initiative that serves to promote the sport and a moment for athletes to socialize, strengthen bonds of friendship and build good memories”, highlights José Carlos Rolo, president of the camera.
The mayor adds that “every year the event brings more than 1500 people to Albufeira, directly or indirectly involved in the organization and who, over these five days, in addition to the games, have the opportunity to stay in our hotels, visit shops and local restaurants and discover the main points of interest in the municipality”.
This year, Tomás Barroso, a former Portuguese international from Albufeira, is the godfather of the 16th edition of the Youth Basketball Festival. The competition, which pits district teams at the under-14 and under-16, female and male levels, is organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation and has the support of the Municipality of Albufeira, the Algarve Basketball Association and the collaboration of the two clubs. of the land: Imortal BasKet Club and CBA – Albufeira Basketball Club.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for this Wednesday, April 3rd, at 6pm, at Praça dos Pescadores. It starts with the Parade of the Comitivas, starting from Avenida 25 de Abril towards Praça dos Pescadores, where the Welcome Ceremony will take place and the oaths of the Coordinator of the National Plan of Ethics in Sports, athletes, referees in representation of their peers and a mother or father, on behalf of all athletes. The mascots Blitz and Tiry will also be there. In the end, the entertainment is in charge of DJ Miguel Filhó.
