NIn a statement, the association said that, in the month of March, 26,240 motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, 6.7% more than in the same period last year.

Thus, “from January to March 2024, 68,520 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented an increase of 13.1% compared to the same period of the previous year”.

With regard to light passenger vehicles, between January and March 2024, registrations “totaled 59,044 units, which translated into a positive variation of 13.1% compared to the same period in 2023”, while in March there were “registered in Portugal 22,796 new passenger cars”, an increase of 6.2% compared to the same month in 2023.

ACAP highlighted that, in the first quarter, 51.5% of new registered passenger vehicles “were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrids”.

In particular, he indicated that 16% of new passenger vehicles were electric. “Referring only to the month of March, the weight of trams was 16.4% of the market,” said ACAP.

On the other hand, with regard to light goods, the market recorded, in the third month of 2024, a positive evolution of 17% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 2,843 registered units.

“In accumulated terms, the market reached 7,591 units, which represented an increase of 14.1% compared to the same period in 2023”, also indicated ACAP.

The association also reported on heavy vehicles (passenger and goods), indicating that, in March, “there was a drop of 12.8% compared to the same month of 2023, with 601 vehicles in this category being sold”.

In the first quarter of 2024, “registrations in this category totaled 1,885 units, which represented a market increase of 9.5% compared to the same period in 2023”, he concluded.
