Operation “Clean Water”, launched by the GNR with the aim of preventing illegal discharges into water in the municipalities of Leiria, Batalha, Marinha Grande and Porto de Mós, culminated in the identification of 26 infractions.

According to data provided to JORNAL DE LEIRIA, in the four months of the operation, carried out between December 15th and April 15th, around 50 inspections were carried out.

These actions resulted in the lifting of 16 infraction notices for “rejection of degraded water into the soil/water without any mechanism to ensure its purification”.

The GNR also identified two infractions for non-compliance relating to the spreading of livestock effluents “on flooded soil” and prepared two reports due to the lack of a permit to use water resources.

“As part of these infractions, 11 natural persons and 15 legal persons were identified”, adds the GNR in the information sent to JORNAL DE LEIRIA.

With this operation, the GNR intended to “address the numerous complaints registered in recent years”, alluding to the pollution of water resources, with the aim of “promoting the sustainability of the biodiversity of these resources, providing the monitoring and identification of perpetrators of illicit acts , which endanger water bodies” in the municipalities covered.

The GNR assures that “it is aware of this scourge, guaranteeing regular patrolling of the most affected area”, through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA). Reporting infractions and clarifications in this area can also be made via the SOS Environment and Territory Line (808 200 520).
