“Choices for the government were surprising”, says Marques Mendes

Social democratic commentator Luís Marques Mendes admitted, this Sunday, that the “choices for the Government were surprising” due to their “quality”

“The choices for the government surprised everyone and me a little too. They were pleasantly surprised. I think the Government is good and given the circumstances it is much better than expected”, highlighted Marques Mendes

“What are the circumstances? It is a minority government, media scrutiny is very strong today, there is the idea that it is a short-lived government and therefore, this does not invite people to accept it”, he assured.

For the commentator this “is in fact a government that surprises, both due to the number of independents and therefore surprising due to its quality”.

“Here, in fact, there was a general surprise, just seeing the comments made throughout this day. And above all, there is surprise in the way in which Luís Montenegro conducted this process, with great secrecy. It wasn’t always like this in the past. This shows professionalism”, he stressed.

It was also surprising “due to the profile of the ministers, that is, a happy conciliation between experience and novelty”. “For example, Manuel Castro Almeida, who is a minister of the political core, is perhaps the most experienced minister in the Government. He has already had government experience in three governments and on the other side there is Maria do Rosário, an independent who is entering for the first time”.
