In ten years, Hospital de Braga has already carried out 62 thousand hemodialysis sessions

Braga Hospital marked, on Monday, the 10th anniversary of the Hemodialysis Unit of the Nephrology Service, a unit that provides care to users with chronic kidney disease.

The service professionals demonstrated how the physical space of a Hemodialysis Unit is organized, in the Ágora of Braga Hospital, through an exhibition that can be visited until the end of the week.

In a statement, the Braga Local Health Unit said that, over the last ten years, the Nephrology Service carried out a total of 79 thousand consultations and around 62 thousand hemodialysis sessions.

There were three thousand visits to the Emergency Department and around two thousand hospitalizations.

“The activity data reflects the significant impact that the Hemodialysis Unit has had on the lives of thousands of people in the Braga region”, assesses ULS.

“The 10th anniversary of the Hemodialysis Unit is an important milestone for the Nephrology Service at ULS de Braga”, says Rui Costa, Director of the Nephrology Service at ULS de Braga, quoted in the statement. “Over the last decade, our team has been dedicated to providing excellent care to our users, with a focus on humanization and quality of life”, added Hugo Sousa, Nurse Manager of the Nephrology Service at ULS de Braga.

The Nephrology Service at ULS Braga has a team of more than 30 professionals, including Nephrologists, Nurses, Operational Assistants, and a Dietitian. The unit is equipped with “state-of-the-art” technology.

“We are very proud of the work we developed at the Hemodialysis Unit”, says Domingos Sousa, President of the Board of Directors of ULS de Braga. “We are committed to continuing to improve our services and provide our users with the best possible quality of life”, he emphasizes.

The ULS de Braga Hemodialysis Unit, located at Braga Hospital, operates 24 hours a day, throughout the week.

Portugal is the country in Europe, along with Greece, with the highest incidence of End-stage Chronic Kidney Disease (ESRD), according to the Portuguese Society of Nephrology.
